Smart Business Network is seeking a detail-oriented copy editor to be based at our corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. We a national multimedia company and marketing services firm. Our media side publishes a national chain of business magazines under the brand Smart Business, produces dozens of conferences and events, creates and curates a nationally oriented destination website, and operates a manuscript development and book publishing house.

This position is responsible for copyediting all Smart Business-branded content, including individual magazine and online-only articles, complete publications, marketing pieces, business book manuscripts, event materials, as well as other content-centric creations.

Our copy editor rarely gets raw copy thrown his or her way. It is shepherded through at least one editor prior to hitting the copy desk. However, the ideal candidate for this position should possess a combination of strong editing and copyediting skills, comfort with editing and publishing web content, and have a solid understanding of social media content dissemination.

We’re looking for someone who can crack the whip on our grammar and style, and may even be a grouchy grammarian. The perfect person for this job will be someone whose ego will be bruised if errors make it into any one of our 17 regional business publications, online to our websites or blogs, or into email newsletters, published books or eBooks.

All candidates must be comfortable using InDesign and Google Analytics. We’re not looking specifically for a journalism background; marketing is OK. But you must have at least two years’ experience copyediting or editing material that was published for a demanding audience.
