SAVE THE DATE: SNEAK PEEK of the Cleveland International Film Festival




The Press Club of Cleveland is planning a “sneak peek” of the Cleveland International Film Festival along with an overview of movie making in Cleveland.

5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The panel will include:

Marcie Goodman, Executive Director, and Debby Samples, Marketing and Media Director, of the Cleveland International Film Festival

Along with showing previews of some of this year’s film festival entries, they will discuss:
- The growth of film festival over the 42 years of its existence
- How traditional and social media have helped the festival expand
- The communications strategy – local, national and international outreach – that has been used to attract film submissions and audience members

His topics will include:
- A recap of high-profile Hollywood movies that have filmed in Cleveland (The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier; Fast and Furious 8)
- How does the Film Commission “pitch” Cleveland as a movie-making destination.
- Success stories of local companies leveraging Film Commission work to expand their businesses, add jobs and bring revenue to the local economy.
- Reviewing how competitive the film industry is and explain how Ohio state tax credits have helped attract film production.

- The challenges of being a local cheerleader versus asking hard questions about public money spent for movie-making efforts.
- How to cover a movie being filmed without giving away too many spoilers.
- How cell phone photos/videos and social media have changed the reporting process.
