TRADE AND NICHE MEDIA OUTLET EVENT

AT THE TREE HOUSE ON MAY 15th

Trade and niche media outlets play an important role in the media landscape, providing in-depth coverage of industries or certain demographics. On May 15, the Press Club hosted a panel discussion on trade and niche media that included Don Detore, editor of Tire Business, Frank Esposito, senior reporter at Plastics News, Angela Gartner, editor/content director at Northeast Ohio Parent, and Michelle Simakis, editor of Cannabis Business Times. The group shared their insights on trends in the industry and challenges and opportunities facing the trade press, including the use of AI, the state of trade shows and events and the role they play in their coverage, how they use social media to engage with sources and their readers and more. They also gave the communicators in the audience valuable tips on how and when to pitch them stories. The audience, made up of journalists and communicators, was engaged, which provided for a lively discussion. Thank you to our panelists and to all who attended!

2024 NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS AND SCIENCES EMMY AWARDS

On June 22^nd, Press Club of Cleveland Board member Andy Fishman, Vice President/News Director at WJW Fox 8, will be receiving the Silver Circle Award at the 55^th NATSE Great Lakes Region Emmy Awards at Hotel Cleveland in Downtown Cleveland.

Andy joins Terra Brantley, Mark Johnson, Betsy Kling, Mark Rosenberger and Jonathan Walsh, also 2024 Great Lakes Region recipients, in receiving the prestigious honor during the annual NATSE Emmy Awards.

Devonta Dickey

Devonta Dickey is communications and marketing officer at the Saint Luke's Foundation, His proudest professional moment was spearheading the redesign of the Saint Luke’s Foundation’s website. This project spanned nearly a year and was a labor of love. It was incredibly fulfilling, demanding collaboration with the board, staff, and strategy partners (formerly known as grantees). Redesigning the website from scratch, with a fresh look and feel, was both enjoyable and rewarding, particularly ensuring its accessibility and responsiveness, all while celebrating the joy and hard work of our partners.

Angela Gartner

Angela Gartner has been the editor and content director at Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine since 2014. She has won local and national awards for her features, columns and photography over the years. Previously, she was the editor of community magazines at Hibu, Lake/Geauga/Akron Family magazines and an education reporter at The News-Herald. Her work has also appeared in publications such as Sun Newspapers and The Chicago Tribune. She is also a past president at the Cleveland Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and works as an adjunct communications professor at Cleveland State University.
