Elizabeth McIntyre, Editor of Crain's Cleveland Business will moderate the panel discussion.

Hear from local news publishers and TV/digital news directors about how a rapidly changing media landscape has posed new challenges and encouraged creative solutions in providing 24/7 news and information on multiple platforms. How have technology, consumer habits and social listening changed local news and storytelling? How important are things like building the right team, leadership and brand? Bring your questions!

Panelists include:

  • Signal Cleveland Managing Editor/News, Mark Naymik
  • WKYC Digital Operations Manger, Brandon Simmons
  • Marlene Harris-Taylor, Director of Engaged Journalism for ideastream
  • Senior Writer at Cleveland Scene, Sam Allard
  • Cleveland Magazine Editor, Dillon Stewart

Mark Naymik is the founding managing editor of news at Signal Cleveland, a new newsroom launching this fall. He spent more than 25 years inside Cleveland's big and small newsrooms, including several alternative weekly newspapers, The Plain Dealer, cleveland.com and, most recently, WKYC Channel 3.

Brandon Simmons is the Digital Operations Manger at WKYC Studios. As a multi-skilled journalist, Brandon was responsible for shooting, writing, editing and then reporting the daily news for on-air evening newscasts. In his new role, Brandon will be leading all digital initiatives in the newsroom.

Marlene Harris-Taylor is Director of Engaged Journalism for ideastream Public Media the NPR/PBS affiliate in Cleveland, which includes managing IPM's health reporters and community-focused content. Prior to moving into leadership roles, she was a senior health reporter at Ideastream for more than three years and her reporting earned numerous television and radio awards. Marlene is a Press Club of Cleveland Board Member.

Sam Allard is the Senior Writer at Cleveland Scene Magazine, where he reports on politics, power, justice and basketball in Northeast Ohio. He is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and the NEOMFA at Cleveland State, where he teaches writing when time permits. After falling in love with magazine journalism as a kid, Stewart honed his storytelling skills at Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism.
