City of Cleveland Congratulates Club

Cleveland City Council rolled out the red carpet for The Press Club of Cleveland at its Jan. 30 session with a resolution of congratulations to the Club for 125 years of service to the journalism community.

From Council President Martin J. Sweeney's presentation of the resolution to the Club:  “The Press Club of Cleveland is one of the oldest institutions in Cleveland, older than the Terminal Tower, The Cleveland Clinic, The City Club, The Indians, Browns, Cavaliers, and Rock n’ Roll itself. It pre-dates radio and TV.  The Press Club is also well known for hosting two major events every year: The Press Club of Cleveland Hall of Fame induction every October and the Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards every June.”

Accepting the honor were Press Club Board Members Jeff Bendix, Maryana Bradas, Michael Bennett, John Bechtkal, Jane Christyson, Bonnie Godbey, Carol Kovach, Richard Stewart and President Ed Byers who, in his remarks to City Council, thanked Mayor Jackson, Council President Sweeney and Council for the recognition.

Special thanks to City Council media director Jim Kopniske for his efforts in spearheading the resolution.
