How do local freelancers create and expand their networks in Northeast Ohio? How do you structure a great pitch? What you need to know from local freelance writers and photographers, moderated by Cleveland Magazine’s Editor, Dillon Stewart.

Emanuel Wallace is a music journalist and photographer from Cleveland, Ohio. He is the staff photographer for Cleveland Scene magazine.

He also occasionally contributes to Cleveland.com, Destination Cleveland and RapReviews, among other outlets.

In the past, he was a contributing photographer for URB.com and the Call & Post newspaper and was selected by Complex Magazine as one of their “25 More Music Photographers You Need To Know.” In 2016, he released “Talent in the City,” a photography book documenting hip-hop music in Columbus, Ohio.

Cleveland, Ohio-based author, journalist and editor Annie Zaleski is an award-winning writer with bylines including Rolling Stone, NPR Music, The Guardian, Salon, Time, Billboard, Classic Pop, Record Collector and more. She's also the author of a 33 1/3 book on Duran Duran’s Rio and the illustrated biography Lady Gaga: Applause.

Ken Schneck is the editor of The Buckeye Flame, Ohio’s only statewide LGBTQ+ news platform. He regularly freelances for Cleveland Magazine, FreshWater Cleveland, and Ideastream Public Media. In his spare time, he is a tenured professor of education at Baldwin Wallace University.

Kate Bigam Kaput is a consumer health writer, lifestyle blogger and prolific freelancer based in Lakewood. She is a frequent food writer for Cleveland Magazine, and her byline has also appeared in Ohio Magazine, The Washington Post and Esquire, among others.
